Single release for Emaline Delapaix
I am quite proud of one of the first results of me as a music producer. Australian born, but currently living in the UK, Emaline Delapaix just released the first single of her upcoming album: “When the light falls and the bear sleeps”. The music is a blend of folk, indie-pop and a hint of electronics - and her singing often reminds people of Kate Bush and Tori Amos. A refreshing combination!
Next to producing this song, I also recorded and mixed it and… played accordion parts to it! I used my effect pedals to enhance the sound beyond the acoustic. Fun fact: the “wind” sounds come from the bellows of my accordion as well!
The gorgeous nyckelharpa parts were played by long time friend and absolute star on the violin: Sophie Zaaijer. She only recently acquired her nyckelharpa, but she is clearly very passionate and played beautifully. The violin, viola and cello parts are also played by her.
All the guitar parts, vocals and harmonies are by Emaline herself. Her partner Luke contributed with some intricate mandoline parts. All other sounds come from my hands.
I’ve been wishing for a chance to work with Maria Triana as a mastering engineer for a long time. She once was a pupil of Darcy Proper. When I worked in Wisseloord Studios, I got to know Darcy’s exquisite (Grammy-awarded) mastering work and we also became friends. Maria used to live close to me, and we met a couple of times, which was always great. Her mastering of this track blew me away really, I’m very grateful for how she made everything shine.
